Makin It Work in New York!

Project Runway has moved back to New York City ! The hit T.V. series on Bravo has returned to its beloved city after a short stint in Los Angeles. Host Heidi Klum, former super model and Victoria’s Secret spokeswoman, has said that she loves filming in New York. The contestants also seem pleased to be in the big apple for this latest season. While the season filmed in Los Angeles had a diverse group of guest judges, something was missing. The contestants on Project runway stay in fabulous rooms provided by the show. Live out a designers dream and book a room to catch a glimpse of the inspiration that is flowing through the streets day and night. Stay a few days and walk the streets that celebrities and designers walk every day, or just hail a cab. Gotham City is not a dark and grim place, it is fabulous and vibrant and full of life!

It is great to see all of the different sides of New York City through the designer’s eyes. Often, the challenges are ones that require the designers to hit the streets of New York and draw inspiration from places like China town, the Bronx, Queens , Soho , etc… Inspiration can come from the smallest obscure image, or the most obvious.
Contestants have found inspiration from the tagging on the walls to the jeans worn by almost one hundred percent of the people in Harlem . The jeans inspired outfit that was created showcased how jeans can be street and elegant. This particular designer was able to make an evening gown out of dark denim material and show how the streets of Harlem translate into high fashion. The designer who drew inspiration from the tagging and street flyers, was able to pull the colors from these flyers and create a new pattern.

Parsons The New School For Design is where all of the magic happens. The contestants head to parsons every morning and leave at midnight every night. They have a huge show room and a back room lined with sewing machines. It is amazing at how fast these designers can cut, sew and make it work!

Great Buffets in Singapore

One question you should never have to ask when visiting Singapore is “where can I get some good food?” Instead it is more likely that you’ll have to struggle through making a decision about which great restaurant and food genre you want to choose from. More than one wise philosopher has said that it is more difficult to choose from too many options than to it is to be happy with a few. However, in the case of the cuisine that is offered by this great Asian city, making a choice may be difficult but it is worth the commitment. Singapore is known for its great dining options and tourists are often amazed at all there is available.

One of the popular dining structures and restaurant options in Singapore is buffets. They are available in many food genres and it’s the style of service and options that is most attractive to many of the residents as well as enticing a great number of tourists. That is not to imply that the quality and great taste of the food offered isn’t also a major attraction and essential aspect of most of the buffets.

The Olive Tree on Middle Road is a great example of international food available at many of these buffets. On Friday and Saturday evenings they have a great seafood night special and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as well as on holidays, they offer a great high tea buffet . The Mandarin Oriental on Raffles Boulevard is a premium buffet and has a tiered selection offering. It is possible to order the menu that includes juices, coffee, tea and other non alcoholic drinks as well as others that include premium champagnes, beer and other alcohol drinks. Le Meridien on Orchard Road is an international buffet and every Wednesday they offer a special Singapore theme menu.
